Matthew Willie Garcia was born and raised in Tulare, CA.  He received a B.F.A. in Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute and is currently an M.F.A. Candidate in Printmaking at the University of Kansas. Matthew lives and works between Kansas City, MO, and Lawrence, KS. He is as a queer interdimensional explorer, and often finds himself thinking about Lisa Frank, Star Trek Voyager, Ru Pauls Drag Race and the curvature of space-time.

Quantum States and Queer Realities is a series of works that utilize prints, drawing, projections, and sculptures that explore queer existence as quantum superpositions, or states of potential. These works explore what it means to have a multifaceted and multidimensional existence, utilizing ideas within quantum mechanics to speak about the fluid nature of existing, particularly within and among queer individuals. Quantum States and Queer Realities utilize a ribbon form as a stand-in for these quantum superpositions, these forms are an ever-changing fluid reality that distorts and simultaneously queers space-time. It is the goal of Quantum State and Queer Reality to seek out and discover what it means to have a higher dimensional existence, what does the fifth, sixth or even fiftieth dimension look, feel or act like. The work is striving to depict spaces where intersectionality meets science, science fiction meets queer theory and where all dimension collapse in and outside of space and time.
